On October 22, 2008 Brenda Clubine was released from prison after serving 26 years for defending herself against her abusive husband.

She now continues with her advocacy by speaking out about the dangers of abusive relationships in hopes that people will continue to make a difference in the struggle against domestic violence.

"I waited and dreamed for 26 years to once again be able to feel the water on my toes at the beach.

I realize for some that isn't a big deal. But, for the morning after my release it was the most amazing moment I could have had!"

I LOVE this trailer and cannot wait to see the film! How surreal it must be to see yourself in the footage…in prison! And now you are free!! What a powerful way to help tell your story and help change the issue of domestic violence. I am amazed!

  2. Brenda Clubine Says:

    Ashley,
Thank you for your kind words and encouragement. Yes, it seems surreal to see myself in the documentary and now be free. What makes it so awesome is that now I can give the women of CWAA a voice and they are able to be more than just a person talking on a documentary. They are amazing women and deserve to be heard.

You look great and I am happy to say I personally know you! I asked you to be a friend on facebook so you better add me!
Great to see your face ma!

Debby, as you can see I am still fighting for change. I guess that will never stop until the day I pass away. It is my lifes mission to not only give domestic violence a voice, but also a face. The silence must end!

  5. Liz Rademakers Says:

Ms. Clubine, I have a dear friend who was recently arrested in Oklahoma for attempting to kill her husband of over 12 years, during which she was subjected to extreme physical, emotional and verbal abuse during the entire marriage. In a recent pre-hearing, she was being offered a sentence of 15 years. The next hearing will be two months from now. She has a public defender, because she cannot afford anything else. She’s not been in trouble in the past and has a 12 yr. old son. Are there any resources or advocacy groups who can get involved on behalf of my friend? She is ready to give up and not fight. Besides being there, writing and visiting, what else can I do to support her? Besides her sister and myself, there is no one else to support her. Is there stuff or literature you can send? Or can you refer me to some other sources? I would be extremely grateful for your assistance. I truly appreciate the work you are doing. Thank You.

Liz, have you been able to contact a local shelter and obtain a domestic violence court advocate?I would also suggest you call 211 and see what resources you can connect your friend with. Also, the National Clearing House for the Defense of Battered Women is a huge organization that can also assist you in who you need to contact, they are located in Philidelphia but they certainly will have more than enough info. for you they also accept collect calls from incarcerated battered women 800-903-0111 x3 or 215-351-0010.It’s so important that you continue to be there for her and keep giving her strength not to give up. It is difficult to be alone in this type of situation, that doesn’t mean there are not people there for her, it’s just hard to deal with the entire matter. Please keep in touch if there is anything else I can possibly do let me know.
