On October 22, 2008 Brenda Clubine was released from prison after serving 26 years for defending herself against her abusive husband.

She now continues with her advocacy by speaking out about the dangers of abusive relationships in hopes that people will continue to make a difference in the struggle against domestic violence.

"I waited and dreamed for 26 years to once again be able to feel the water on my toes at the beach.

I realize for some that isn't a big deal. But, for the morning after my release it was the most amazing moment I could have had!"

Our Future

For the second time this week I was given the opportunity to speak to a class at Pacific Lutheran University. What an amazing group of young adults that are so obviously eager to learn.

I have spoken about gender issues specifically how domestic violence affects women as well as what would have happened had I been able to have a social worker intervene on my behalf. I couldn’t imagine taking classes such as these and be able to see the potential of a career at the young ages these students currently are.

I could see what the topic of domestic violence made them think as the looks on their faces would change and there would be this awesome light of hope in their eyes.

It means so much to me that I have this chance to hopefully make a difference in these young lives, I wish I had someone when I was younger. Who knows, maybe, just maybe there is some young woman that really needed to hear what I had to say so that she will only allow herself to be in an abusive free relationship.

So, here’s a big thank you to the students I was able to share with, I wish you all much luck ahead.

Kelly, hopefully there will be another opportunity for me to speak in San Francisco. It was a beautiful place to be and I enjoyed being there immensely.I hope you enjoy the DVD, share it with your friends and hold a screening of your own. We all make a difference just talking about this life changing film, Sin By Silence.

Sarah, thank you for the warm and encouraging words. I must be honest though and tell you that I actually feel selfish after being at PLU since I firmly feel without question it is you young people that touched my life and the opportunity I was given to be a small part of Sin By Silence is huge when it comes to young people such as yourself. Thank you again for being there, PLU rocks!!!

Alicia,it was an honor for me to share with you all at PLU and I truly hope to have the opportunity to come back again some time. I wish you all a life that is free of abuse. Thank you so much for attending the screening of Sin By Silence.

hey Brenda, I got my copy of Sin by Silence last night. It was all I could do to tear it out the package and place it in the DVD player. As soon as I saw CIW I started to cry. Though I was not there near as long as you, I think one day was too long. Your story and your son was the levee breaker though. I am so proud of all the work you have done not just for yourself, but ALL women! I look forward to you coming back to San Francisco, and you name it; dinner a Giants game whatever you want it is on me.God Bless you Brenda.
